Nishat is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Researcher pursuing a PhD in Economics, as part of the “Needs and Systems” work package within the HOMeAGE Doctoral Network. She is an academic, educator, and dedicated to solve pressing global problems and societal challenges. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree from University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), USA with partial coursework in Applied Economics. Prior to that, she completed Masters in Development Economics and Bachelor in Development Studies from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her professional experience spans from academia and international organizations (UN agencies – UNHCR and UNDP). She was responsible for teaching interdisciplinary methods courses and substance courses at BRAC University and University of Michigan.
PhD Project: Integration of AI in the long-term care system
The PhD project aims to understand how AI-assisted telehealth can enhance the home-based care for the older adults in the context of post-pandemic Italy. Positioned within innovation and technology studies, medical sociology, economics and gerontology, the research examines how socioeconomic factors and constraints shape the adoption and impact of AI enabled telehealth services among the ageing population.
The project utilizes mixed-methods approach, which combines review of national and supranational policies, systematic analysis, and different quantitative and qualitative tools to generate robust empirical evidence and actionable insights.
The project will design concrete policy pathways, to better support the integration of AI enabled health tech in home-based care systems, contributing to efficient long-term care, aging with dignity and inclusive social welfare systems in Italy and beyond.
