Participatory Photography

What does a good place for ageing look like? What types of housing are suitable for ageing well?

This co-created photobook explores these questions together with older adults living in affordable alternative housing and institutional care homes in Vienna.

The photo book is an outcome of Luise Stoisser’s PhD, which explores the lived experiences of older adults in different housing types through participatory photography. Together with photographer Lisa Achammer, photographs about ageing and place were co-created with participants.

This work highlights the complexity and diversity of ageing experiences, challenging the notion that some places are inherently better suited to ageing well than others.

Together with the opening of the exhibition in Vienna on the 5th of October 2026, hosted at an assisted living facility, this photobook was published in German. An English version will be published on the 25th of November, accompanying the opening of the Brussels edition of the exhibition.
