Brief Bio

I’m Fatemeh Hatami from Iran. My background is mainly in civil and transportation engineering. I graduated from K.N. Toosi University of Technology with a master’s degree in highway and transportation engineering. I am really into everything which is related to human beings so Since then I worked in various industrial and clinical projects both in the field of transportation and psychology. Meanwhile, I worked voluntarily in some social works and co-founded the first transportation podcast in Persian named “Teran”.

Research Project

Title of Project: Innovative Transportation Technologies to Support Aging in Place and Improve the Wellbeing of Older People.

Aim of Project: The overall goal of this study is to make transportation technologies more inclusive by ensuring that everyone, especially older adults, are considered by identifying the key barriers, motivations and factors that influence their adoption of these innovations. The study ultimately aims to promote more thoughtful, accessible, and user-centered design in future transportation technologies.

Short description/abstract: Access to transportation is vital throughout our lives, from youth to older age. It supports independence, reduces social isolation by enabling community participation, enhances well-being, and is a human right. Despite this, transportation technologies are often designed with younger users in mind, unintentionally excluding older adults. While this group is diverse, with varying physical, cognitive, and digital abilities. This underscores the importance of inclusive transportation design, solutions that are accessible, intuitive, and usable for all. Ensuring not only everyone, especially older adults, are considered but they are actively involved from the earliest stages of the design process.

Current state of research project: Writing a paper on factors predicting transportation technology adoption among older adults using data-driven methods.
