DESCRIPTION:The next HOMeAGE Training Event will take place in Frankfurt\, Germany between 8th and 11th October 2024. As a part of the third HOMeAGE Training Event we will be making some sessions on October 9th open to the public. \nHome & Belonging in Place \nBackground and purpose: Research demonstrates the importance of a sense of home and belonging for later life identity and wellbeing in place. However\, with more diverse residential life-course trajectories\, the multifaceted impact of globalisation\, environmental change and digitalisation\, and the continued institutional segregation of some groups\, links with place can be more tenuous. The risk of older people becoming disembedded from localities\, or failing to embed at all\, may as such be that much greater. Drawing on contributions from international scholars and practice experts\, this lecture and training event will explore challenges and opportunities in fostering home and belonging amongst diverse older populations\, in diverse contexts. \nThe public session programme is available here \nRegister to attend here

SUMMARY:Advancing Research and Training on Ageing\, Place and Home
DESCRIPTION:Ageing in place is critical to the future of ageing societies\, and fundamental to older people’s longer-term health and wellbeing outcomes. Yet\, there are significant concerns that efforts are failing to support ageing in place\, and failing to engage with critical challenges regarding needs and systems\, home and belonging\, and rights and voice as we age in place. This lecture and training event will explore our research and policy understanding of these and other ageing in place challenges. Drawing on contributions from international scholars and policy experts\, these sessions will address: (1) the conceptualisation of ageing in place in contemporary societies; (2) socio-economic determinants of remaining in place; (3) spatial justice and age-friendly policy for heterogeneous groups; and (4) critical thinking in international policy and scholarly debates on ageing in place. \nRegister here for the public event.  The full programme is available here.
