Public Lecture & Training Sessions

This series provides the public with access to key Training Events, with one day of each event open to public participation. This series delves into our research and policy perspectives on the challenges of ageing in place, featuring insights from renowned international scholars and policy experts. When applicable, recordings of these public sessions are made available on the HOMeAGE YouTube channel.

Public Event 1 – Advancing Research and Training on Ageing, Place and Home

The first HOMeAGE Public Lecture Event addressed opportunities and tensions in ageing in place. Held at the Institute for Lifecourse and Society in the University of Galway, this lecture and training event explored the current state of the art with respect to ageing in place, its evolution as a research and policy agenda and its diverse meaning for different sections of the older population. Drawing on contributions from international scholars and policy experts, these sessions addressed: (1) the conceptualisation of ageing in place in contemporary societies; (2) socio-economic determinants of remaining in place; (3) spatial justice and age-friendly policy for heterogeneous groups; and (4) critical thinking in international policy and scholarly debates on ageing in place.

Public Event 2 – Ageing in Place - Needs and Systems

The second of the HOMeAGE Public Lecture Events was held at the UNIVPM Faculty of Economics, Ancona, Italy and focused on exploring systems in place concerns, with a particular focus on housing, long-term care and related infrastructures. Through the presentations and contributions of international scholars and policy experts, these sessions addressed: (1) the components and changes within current support systems that enable ageing in place; (2) inclusive and participatory approaches in local system development.

Public Event 3 – Home and Belonging in Place

The third of the HOMeAGE Public Lecture Events was held at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany and focused on the importance of a sense of home and belonging for later life identity and wellbeing in place. Drawing on contributions from international scholars and practice experts, this lecture and training event will explore challenges and opportunities in fostering home and belonging amongst diverse older populations, in diverse contexts.

Public Event 4 - Ageing in Place: Rights and Voice

The HOMeAGE Doctoral Network’s fourth public lecture series focuses on challenge 3 – Rights and Voice. Sessions in this series address key issues related to ageing-in-place, care, and inclusivity, focusing on practical, policy, and design approaches that support older adults. These sessions provide valuable insights on how to make policy, research and practice more inclusive, how to design with and for older adults, and how to navigate the challenges of technological and spatial transformations in ageing-in-place contexts.
